EHDI is a system of many moving parts and people. The overall EHDI Goal is the 1-3-6 goal.
- 1: Screen all infants by one month of age;
- 3: Rescreen and/or subsequently diagnose/identify all failed screens by 3 months of age;
- 6: Enroll in early intervention services by 6 months of age.
The Joint Committee on Infant Hearing (JCIH) has recommended that the EHDI system should aim for a 1-2-3 Goal. Screen by one month of age, rescreen/diagnose/identify by 2 months of age, and enroll in early intervention services by 6 months of age.
